Voices… Me?

There is such a fine line between sanity and insanity; between dreams and reality.  We writers walk that tightrope every day, and sometimes don’t even realize it.

You see writers have to create characters, and sometimes hear them in our heads, but are they real or imagined?  Modern science would tell you that you need help if you hear voices, but what if you’re creating characters for a novel or movie script?  I mean: did Beethoven hear the music because he was crazy or was he crazy because he heard the music?  And more importantly:  would he have written such beautiful music IF he had taken some of our modern drugs?

Schizophrenics are often classified as over achievers, but could it be they are just pushed too hard by their over achieving parents?  I don’t begin to have the answers, but it is something to think about…

So my friends, my question is:  do we ignore the voices in our heads or rechannel them for greatness?  I can only hope that we rechannel them for greatness because I dread to think of the consequences should we be wrong…
