Car Running Rough?

Once upon a time in the land called Dothan, there was a very Very tough little yellow car. This car was so tough that it could even run without antifreeze. (And folks, that’s mighty tough!)

I wasn’t going to blog about this, but since Alexa posted this photo on Facebook, I figured it was alright. The Kids (my son and daughter-in-law) had been having trouble with their yellow Ford Focus for some time. The engine light was on and several folks who claimed to know about cars said it was due to the car trying to reuse the exhaust; or that the engine needed a good cleaning, etc. The Kids went and bought some of that expensive Lucas cleaner and even bought the high quality gas like Shell and Chevron, but the car continued to run rough.

After the alternator went out and was replaced at a reputable place, they still had trouble with the car running rough and the engine light was still on. Yesterday Alexa called to tell me that the car was really running rough and trying to shut off. She said she thought it was the battery; so I told her to call AutoZone and see about getting the battery terminals cleaned.

Well to make a long story short, the AutoZone in Dothan wouldn’t do it; so Alexa drove back up here to Ozark (where the last battery was replaced) and they cleaned the terminals. While the rep was tinkering with the terminals, I noticed the reservoir was empty. The car had been sitting for at least 20 minutes so some antifreeze should have flowed back into the plastic container. I asked the rep to check it for me since my limited vision does play tricks on me, but he confirmed my suspiscions: No antifreeze! Zip! Zero! Zilch! So we went back into AutoZone and purchased a gallon of 50/50 antifreeze/coolant and the rep was kind enough to fill up the reservoir for us.

Alexa called me later to say that the engine light had turned off and the car was running so much better. How that little yellow tank managed to run without antifreeze is a Miracle. And some folks think there is no God.

Now what really bothers me about this story is that all these so called experts never said anything about antifreeze. And nobody checked the levels. Auto repair places say they do, but they don’t; so remember to always check your car before you leave any repair place that says they check your levels because they probably don’t. And there are very few cars in this world like The Kids’ Little Yellow Tank. Onward…

Only a gallon of antifreeze? By the picture, it looks as if it was bone dry. If the coolant level gets too low, the temperature gauge may not even register… Unless this picture was taken AFTER the coolant level-up. Well, I’m glad to see that the car is tough enough to handle some abuse/neglect. Kids these days need cars like this. The best to you. Blog on!
