TROY, MO (KPLR) – Four defendants charged in a fake kidnapping plot designed to scare a six-year-old boy had their bonds reduced in a court appearance Thursday.
The boy’s mother, aunt, and grandmother are all accused of cooking up the plan to terrorize the boy so he wouldn’t talk to strangers. A fourth person, a non-relative, was hired to conduct the faux kidnapping.
Police said the boy was threatened with a gun and told he could be sold into sex slavery.
In court Thursday, prosecutors called the aunt the ring-leader, adding she sent text messages detailing what she wanted done to scare the boy.
The woman’s attorney asked for a bond reduction, saying if the accusations were true then it was a case of bad judgment. Her bond was reduced from $250,000 to $100,000.
