Ode To 565

My sister emailed me today with the sad news that The Old Baptist Church Building (Cahokia, IL) where we grew up was burned and arson is suspected.

Ode To 565

The place was torched by some monster

or misguided humanoid

And now residents are homeless

and those of us long gone

are left with a torched void

in our hearts

As cherished memories

no longer tangibly seen

were consumed in fire.

It does not matter

if we did not view

the devastation

because our hearts still feel

the emptiness and pain

now that we know…

Sandy I am so sorry, We had a lot of good times at 565 over the years . I couldn’t believe it when I saw it on the news.Maybe it was a blessing in disquise when you were here and you went and got the pictures of the place.Yes, they believe it was arson and it looks like a total loss from the video.
Let’s just remember the good times we had there and waking up to the church sermons on the sunday mornings I stayed over. I can still hear your dad telling us to be quiet so as not to disturb them.

I feel like someone ripped open in my heart and tried to steal my childhood memories. Guess it’s a good thing I’m tough on the outside because I sure don’t feel that way now.
