Our stray foundling, Little SuzyQ is expecting again. The little skeletal pipsqueak wandered into our yard last spring — and not wanting to see her starve — we fattened her up. What did the healthy, ungrateful wench then do? She got pregnant! The first time, we thought it was because she had broken her chain and “caroused” around the neighborhood with ruffians of ill repute. That foray produced four puppies – three that resembled pit bulls and one that resembled Sammo, my Rottweiler mix.
We took extra precautions after that escape to ensure it would never happen again. We built her a pen constructed of rolled fencing and felt quite smug with ourselves. Unfortunately we took all the added precautions for SuzyQ because we never imagined that Sammo Branum was a gymnast! SuzyQ has never left her pen since her “great escape” last summer. On the other hand, Sammo has regularly either slipped his collar or his chain, but never left his pen – which as you guessed — is right next to Suzy’s.
This morning while feeding these amorous canines, I noticed that SuzyQ looks pregnant again. Alas my unfortunate conclusion can only be that Sammo Branum is much more limber than I ever imagined and somehow these amorous canines linked up … through the fence. Never thought the ol’ boy had it in him. In a way I’m kinda jealous – that is until we have more “mouths to feed.” Anybody want a pit bull/border collie/Rottweiler mix puppy?
