Heart Beats

The candy dish calls out to me.

Come.  Come.  Don’t be shy.

Dive into our chocolate splendor.

You know you shall not die.

I could not resist this luscious temptation

Although the doctor said I should.

My heart raced in happy anticipation

As I devoured this heavenly food.

But soon my heart grew tired, as did I

And I surmised

The doctor had finally been right after all

As I said my last goodbyes.
